Chapter 22
“I Don’t Want To Be Adeline!”

Shane caught the little unconscious body and held him tight. It had turned blue.
Sister Anne gasped, “Oh, My Lord, it happened again.”
“Go, take him to my room,” Father Simon commanded, “and sister, calmed the boys.”

They laid him on the Father Simon’s bed and started to give the treatment. Kian’s old oxygen mask was put on, and Shane rubbed the salve both on Kian’s chest and back, warmed the body.
“It’s alright, love, back with us, you can do it, son,” Sister Anne kept rubbing gently calling the lads to respond with prayed.
Shane felt so bad, and cursed he didn’t take any Miss Adeline medication. It was his responsibility of taking care his missy. And if something bad happened to Miss Adeline that would kill him. It was his fault.
Then slowly they could hear hard panting breathe and started to fight within looking for the air.
    “E… Mark…!”
“Alright, easy lad, … breathe slowly….”
   “Mark…I need Mark…,” he struggled.
“Shs….it’s alright, love,” Sister Anne tried to calm the boy.
    “I’m here, Miss.”
He could hear the voice, “Sh…shane…he left me again, Shane…” he cried with hard breathing. His chest was hurt so much, till he couldn’t fight again. He fell to sleep where heart pain trapped him.
Father Simon put the bandage on Kian’s chest with the salve inside, so Kian’s chest would keep warm and clearing his lungs. They had been there before, Kiane old scene. Now they only could wait Kian to absorb the medicine and kept Kian calm.

“Sir, you better tell Lord McFadden about this,” Father Simon said to Shane with concern and worried face.
“Yes of course,” Shane sighed in half panic. He didn’t know how to tell The Master. He would be blame if something bad happened to Miss Adeline, and he had to take that.

Shane knew he couldn’t leave his missy alone, he had to be by her side, so he sent the coachman to give the news to Master, and he had ready for the master anger.

Shane sat beside laid body, not even single minutes left him. Father Simon watched the boy in worried, as well as Sister Anne and Sister Theresa.

And finally, Kian stirred weakly and tried to open his eyes where he found Shane sat on the bed.
    “Sh…Shane….”
    “I’m here, Miss, I’m here….” he held Kian’s hand.
“He came for me, Shane… he really came!” he sobbed with chest hurting so much. “I shouldn’t leave, Shane. I should stay, I should stay!”
     “Yes, Miss_”
     “NO…SHANE…STOP! I can’t be Adeline… I want Mark…I want Mark!”
     “M.. . Kian…”
“No… please… leave me here, Shane…I’m not going back there. I have to wait him, Shane. Mark will come back for me again, I have to stay!”
Shane froze in pale. ‘No it can’t!’
     “Kian…”
“I just want Mark!” he snapped angrily then he turned his body avoiding Shane “…Mark…” and cried again, his chest even hurt.
Shane sighed in confused. ‘It’s not good. Master wouldn’t like it.’

Shane tried to talk to the boy but seemed he didn’t fancy talking, and the hurt feeling tired him then fell to sleep with heart breaking. Shane didn’t know what to do. He never thought coming to St. Peter would be like this. This was disaster. Master really wouldn’t like it.

They had to wait till night when Lord McFadden was finally arrived at St. Peter with Byron. During the day, Father and Sisters, tried their best to cover Kian from the boys. They didn’t need to know Kian had changed to a girl and collapsed for Mark in heart breaking.

Shane right the way told the Master the whole story, even about Kian’s upset of losing Mark made him didn’t want to leave here.

“Forgive me, Milord, I shouldn’t take him here again,” Shane couldn’t hide his little tremble voice as he welcoming his Master.
“No, it’s alright, it’s not your fault, Shane,” with his gently voice.
But still it’s scared Shane. He took a sight to Byron, and Byron just nodded. They followed Lord McFadden to Father Simon’s room where Kian was laid. And they found Kian laid no emotion staring to the wall beside him.

“Hey, love,” Lord McFadden spoke carefully not to scare the boy, but still jumped the boy. Fear showed to that little face. He pressed his body a bit.
“How you doing there, son?” he gave a gently smile, and checked the boy. No swelling hard and his heart beat sounded normal. He was fine.
    “How you are feeling now?”
“I’m fine, father…” with his low voice.
“So, are you ready to go home?”
Kian shrugged, “I can’t, father….”
Lord McFadden sighed, “Why you can’t?”
Kian even shrugged, couldn’t answer it.
Lord McFadden took a deep breath in a smile, “Mother is looking for you, son, she’s been worried hadn’t see you this day.”
Kian bit his lips. “Mother?”
“Yes. She missed you. She lost her baby.”
“I’m not her baby. I’m not even her daughter,” Kian pouted his lips.
“Yes, you are, love. You are her baby, whether you are a girl or boy, you still her baby, and she can’t lose you.”
Kian bit his lips confused.
    “Do you love mother, Kian?”
Kian had to nod. Yes he did.
“So come home with us, son.”
Kian shrugged again. “I can’t leave Mark, father…,” he finally said it with shy.
“And do you think he would come again?”
    “He came for me.”
“So do you think he would come again?” Lord McFadden sent a Kiane question.
Kian nodded.
    “Are you sure?”
Kian nodded again.
“And would you go with him if he came again?”
Kian nodded without hesitate.
“Then leave everyone who loves you here; your father, your brother, Shane, Miss Emma, Miss Jane, and especially your mother?”
Kian bit his lips. He looked to Byron and Shane.
“We all love you, Kian, we couldn’t lose you again.”
“You love me because I’m Adeline now,” A bit harsh statement came from Kian shocked Father Simon and Sister Theresa, but not Lord McFadden.
“No, we don’t love you as Adeline, Kian, we love you as you are; as Kian.”
Kian doubt with the words. He was just saying it.
“But I have to wear robe.”
“For mother. And we had to call you Adeline, it’s for her too. What we all did it’s for mother, and she loves you very much. I’m sure you don’t want to upset her.”
Kian even bit his lips. Yes, he really couldn’t upset his mother.
    “But Mark…?”
“We didn’t know when he will come back, Kian, but we are always with you, not every single minute leaving you, son.”
Kian face fell.  “… I don’t wanna be alone… I hate being left,” his voice cracked.
“I know, son. That’s why we won’t leave you. We would never leave you. Do you believe in us?”
Kian nodded slightly with wept his tears.
Lord McFadden offered open arms, and Kian burst to his father arms.
Lord McFadden hugged the boy warmly. “We really love you, son, the way you really are, Kian.”
Kian still in his father’s shoulder, and felt he kissed him gently, full of love.
“So will you come home with us?” Lord McFadden asked once again.
And Kian nodded slightly, made everyone relieved.
“And can we go home now? Mother has waiting for you, son.”
Again Kian nodded slightly.
“Well, alright we go home.” With that he picked up the little body and took him out.

After saying goodbye, they were went home, with Kian still curled in his father arm on the journey home, sleep peacefully there.
Shane and Byron could only sigh with smile looking each other. ‘What a poor boy’

As they were arrive, Kian right away sent to Milady room, and laid beside her as Milady had waiting for him for all day. And Kian curled in her arms sleep peacefully in the warm mother arms. He needs this too.

But Shane knew, how hard Kian took the role, he still couldn’t let Mark out his mind. He cried again when he slept alone thinking of the best friend he ever had. And finally Shane would hear Kian last wished.

“Shane… you may call me Miss Adeline, but someday I will come back as a real man, and you can’t stop me,” with his bitter voice.
Shane just nodded, “Yes, Miss.”
He saw Kian sighed, really facing his fate as Miss Adeline.
